Pittsburgh, PA – A surge of Arctic air is set to bring dangerously cold wind chills across the Pittsburgh region and the Upper Ohio Valley, prompting the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh to issue a Cold Weather Advisory from Monday night through Tuesday midday.

Forecasters warn that wind chills could drop as low as 17 degrees below zero, especially overnight and during the early morning hours Tuesday. These conditions pose a serious risk for frostbite and hypothermia for anyone spending extended time outdoors without adequate protection.

The Cold Weather Advisory includes large portions of:

  • Western and southwestern Pennsylvania, including the Pittsburgh metro area
  • East-central Ohio
  • Northern West Virginia, including the northern panhandle and higher elevations

Cities and communities affected include Pittsburgh, Beaver Falls, Greensburg, Washington, Butler, New Castle, Uniontown, Wheeling, Steubenville, Zanesville, Morgantown, and Fairmont, among many others.

  • Ends: Noon EST Tuesday

The coldest wind chills are expected late Monday night through early Tuesday morning.
