Pittsburgh, PA – Snow showers across the Pittsburgh region have created hazardous travel conditions for drivers. The National Weather Service (NWS) reports visibility dropping to under one mile in many areas.
Localized snow showers transitioned into scattered flurries early this afternoon, resulting in slippery roads and fast-forming coatings of snow. According to the NWS, the snow showers are expected to persist for several hours. Drivers may face reduced visibility and slick conditions as snow accumulates rapidly in scattered patterns.
Officials urge motorists to slow down and exercise caution, especially on bridges and untreated surfaces. “Visibility could remain poor throughout the afternoon, and roads may ice over quickly,” the NWS stated in its advisory.
The heaviest snow bands are concentrated around Pittsburgh, Oil City, and Butler, impacting major routes such as I-79 and I-76. Motorists should stay alert for sudden changes in weather patterns and monitor updates from local weather authorities.
As conditions fluctuate, authorities recommend allowing extra travel time and maintaining safe distances between vehicles. The snow showers are expected to taper off later this evening.
