Greensburg, Pennsylvania – Roads across western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia could turn snow-covered before sunrise Sunday as steady accumulation begins at 1 a.m., setting up slick travel through early Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 1 a.m. Sunday until 1 a.m. Tuesday for Jefferson, Westmoreland, Fayette and Indiana counties in Pennsylvania, along with Marion and Monongalia counties in West Virginia. Snow totals between 3 and 5 inches are expected across the region.
Light to moderate snow will overspread communities including Greensburg, Latrobe, Uniontown and Indiana overnight, with accumulation continuing at times into Monday. In West Virginia, Morgantown and Fairmont could see snow-covered stretches of I-79 and secondary roads, especially during heavier bursts Sunday night and Monday. U.S. Route 22, Route 119 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike may become slick during peak travel periods.
The greatest disruptions are likely during the Monday morning and evening commutes as untreated roads remain snow-covered.
Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and keep winter emergency supplies in their vehicles. The advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday, and additional updates may be issued if snowfall totals increase.
