Clearwater, FL – Detectives with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office say a Clearwater woman has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting last month.

According to investigators, deputies responded to a 911 call on August 19, 2025, at approximately 1:12 a.m. at a home on Illinois Road in unincorporated Clearwater. A caller reported hearing a loud noise and a woman’s voice saying, “I have a gun.”

When deputies arrived, they found 60-year-old Patrick David Denney deceased on a bedroom floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Deputies also reported observing blood on 38-year-old Amanda Leigh Tenney’s legs, along with bloody footprints inside the residence.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Tenney and Denney were in a relationship and were the only two people inside the home at the time of the shooting. Detectives also allege that Tenney attempted to clean up the crime scene and did not call 911.

Initially, Tenney was arrested on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Shooting into a Dwelling. On September 16, 2025, detectives added the charge of First-Degree Murder. She remains in custody at the Pinellas County Jail.

Authorities confirmed that next of kin have been notified. The investigation is ongoing.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office shared details of the arrest in a public statement posted Tuesday.
