CLEARWATER, FL – Deputies have arrested a man for Attempted Murder in the First Degree, Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, and Resisting an Officer with Violence after a violent overnight incident at a local gas station.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the altercation occurred around 12:54 a.m. Tuesday at the Rally Gas Station on 3400 Ulmerton Road in Clearwater. Investigators say 51-year-old Dale Jabonero was smoking outside when 44-year-old Enrique Lopez allegedly approached him to ask for a cigarette. After a brief exchange, Lopez allegedly punched Jabonero in the face without provocation.
When Jabonero tried to walk away, deputies say Lopez followed, continued to hit him, and then allegedly stabbed him multiple times once he was on the ground. Responding deputies found Lopez inside the gas station, where he was taken into custody after a brief standoff.
Jabonero was transported to a nearby hospital and is listed in stable condition. Lopez was also taken to a hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Pinellas County Jail on multiple felony charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.
