Pinellas County, FL – Detectives with the Economic Crimes Unit have arrested three suspects accused of possessing and distributing nearly $20,000 in counterfeit currency across local businesses.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began on October 24, 2025, after business owners in John’s Pass reported two young men attempting to use fake bills. The pair, identified as 18-year-old James Perry and 19-year-old Benjamin Warshowsky, allegedly entered the Spice & Tea Exchange on 129th Avenue East in Madeira Beach and asked an employee to exchange four $20 bills. The owner later discovered the bills were counterfeit.

Additional businesses soon reported similar incidents. Detectives later identified a third suspect, 19-year-old Myles Dorris, who was allegedly working with Perry and Warshowsky. Investigators say the trio altered the bills and planned to travel to Georgia and Tennessee to continue passing them.

When detectives moved in to make contact, Warshowsky fled on an electric bike and Dorris ran on foot, but both were apprehended shortly after. All three were transported to the Pinellas County Jail, where detectives recovered roughly $20,000 in counterfeit cash during the arrests.

Authorities urge business owners who may have received counterfeit money to contact Detective Bereznay at 727-582-6015. The investigation remains ongoing.
