Pinal, Ariz. – A severe thunderstorm moving across southeastern Pinal County Friday morning is bringing quarter-sized hail, 60 mph wind gusts, and flash flooding risks that could disrupt travel along Route 77.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, the storm was detected near Oracle just after 11 a.m. MST and is tracking northeast at 15 mph. Radar shows the system capable of damaging vehicles, rooftops, trees, and power lines, with impacts expected in Oracle, Mammoth, San Manuel, and Campo Bonito until around noon.

Highway drivers face the greatest danger between mile markers 100 and 120 on Route 77, where hail and sudden downpours may quickly reduce visibility. Officials warn motorists not to attempt driving through flooded roadways, as torrential rainfall could spark flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents are urged to stay inside sturdy buildings and avoid windows while the storm moves through. NWS notes more advisories may be issued if the system strengthens or spawns additional storm cells later in the day.

Warnings remain in effect until midday, with the strongest impacts expected through lunchtime.
