Pinal County, AZ – Commuters along Interstate 10 faced an emergency rescue situation Thursday after a rollover crash left a woman trapped in a smoking vehicle, according to the Pinal County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

According to PCSO, K9 deputies were patrolling I-10 near the median on August 7 when they came across the overturned vehicle with the driver still inside. Deputies said they saw smoke beginning to rise from the car and immediately worked to remove the woman before the vehicle risked catching fire.

Deputies reported that the woman, described only as a young adult, was pulled from the wreck and moved to a safe distance from the vehicle. An EMT-trained K9 deputy then provided medical care while awaiting fire personnel and paramedics.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital and was listed in stable condition, PCSO said.

Authorities did not immediately release details on what led to the rollover or whether any other vehicles were involved in the crash. The incident temporarily slowed traffic in the area as emergency crews cleared the scene.

Drivers along I-10 reported delays of several minutes Thursday morning as responders worked in the median.
