Tucson, AZ – A major drug shipment worth an estimated $1.5 million was intercepted in southern Arizona after a joint operation led by state and federal investigators targeted rail traffic through Tucson.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS), the October 25 operation was conducted in partnership with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), CBP Air and Marine Operations, and Border Patrol Nogales Disrupt. Investigators focused on trains moving through the Tucson area and uncovered a large-scale narcotics load concealed in a railcar.

Detectives seized approximately 479 pounds of methamphetamine and just over one pound of pink cocaine, authorities said. Two suspects were taken into custody and turned over to HSI for prosecution.

The seizure represents one of the more significant train-based drug interdictions in Arizona this year, part of a continuing effort to target narcotics smuggling corridors used by transnational organizations.

AZDPS officials expressed gratitude to all partner agencies for their “collaboration and support” during the investigation, emphasizing continued vigilance in protecting Arizona’s transportation networks from criminal exploitation.
