Petersburg, IN – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Paducah, Kentucky, has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Pike County, Indiana, where light snow accumulations up to 2 inches are expected between 7 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday.
The advisory comes as an Alberta Clipper system moves across the region tonight, spreading a quick burst of snow through southwest Indiana and southern Illinois. Snowfall will begin during the evening and continue overnight before tapering off early Friday morning.
According to the NWS, roads may become slick, especially on bridges, overpasses, and rural highways. The Friday morning commute could be impacted by patchy ice and reduced visibility from leftover snow.
Forecasters urge drivers to slow down, allow for extra travel time, and use caution on untreated surfaces. Residents can monitor the latest road conditions through the NWS Paducah website at weather.gov/pah/roads.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing through Friday morning, increasing the potential for refreezing on wet surfaces.
