Pierce County, WA – Detectives with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man and woman last week in connection with an alleged plot to kidnap a child and use them in child sex trafficking crimes, authorities said Sunday.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the arrests occurred around 6 a.m. on November 13. Investigators from the Internet Crimes Against Children unit arrested a 28-year-old woman on Steele Street South and a 28-year-old man on Wilkensen Road Southeast in Yelm. A search warrant executed at their home reportedly uncovered evidence of the planned kidnapping.

Both suspects were booked into the Pierce County Jail and face multiple charges, including attempted kidnapping in the first degree, attempted child molestation in the first degree, and nine counts of possessing depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

In a separate update, the sheriff’s office also warned that package thefts are rising across the county as the holiday season approaches. One incident occurred November 14 in Gig Harbor, and deputies are asking residents to report suspicious activity and use secure drop boxes or delivery plans.

“This time of year, package thieves can ruin the holiday spirit,” officials said. “The Grinch has his helpers out early.”
