Pierce County, WA – Pierce County deputies handled two separate incidents over the weekend, including a high-speed DUI pursuit that ended in a crash and an arrest following reports of gunfire in Spanaway.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the first incident happened early January 9 around 2:30 a.m. when deputies spotted a red Dodge Charger traveling over 80 mph on Pacific Avenue South near 174th Street South. The driver allegedly fled a traffic stop, weaving through traffic before losing control at South Tacoma Avenue and 88th Street South, hitting a curb and several parked cars.

Deputies say the 18-year-old male driver admitted the Charger belonged to a family member and that he took it without permission. Signs of impairment were noted, and alcohol was detected. The suspect was booked into the Pierce County Jail for eluding, DUI, and reckless driving.

Later that evening, around 8:00 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a man firing shots near B Street East in Spanaway. A 32-year-old male suspect allegedly fled when deputies arrived but was quickly detained after running through a nearby yard. A pistol was later recovered, hidden among children’s toys.

The suspect was booked for unlawful discharge of a firearm, obstruction, and trespassing.
