Pierce County, WA – Deputies in Pierce County say a suspect’s dramatic attempt to flee arrest turned into a dangerous game of “real-life Frogger” on Highway 512 earlier this week.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 10:30 a.m. on November 4 when deputies spotted a suspicious vehicle in a known area for stolen cars and drug activity. When the deputy approached, the vehicle was confirmed to be stolen, and a male suspect allegedly refused to comply.

Deputies say the man grabbed onto a female passenger and attempted to use her as a shield before fleeing toward State Route 512 near Aqueduct Drive East in Parkland. Once on the highway, the suspect reportedly grabbed onto the back of a moving box truck and was carried nearly 50 yards before jumping off and running toward a nearby apartment complex.

A pursuing sergeant apprehended the 31-year-old suspect shortly after. Authorities later learned he had a gunshot wound from several days prior.

The man was booked into the Pierce County Jail on charges of possessing stolen property, theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and outstanding felony warrants. Deputies say he also had a no-bail community custody warrant and another arrest warrant from a different jurisdiction.

The Sheriff’s Office commended deputies for their persistence, calling it a strong example of teamwork in removing a dangerous individual from the community.
