Pickens County, SC – Deputies are investigating after human remains were discovered submerged in Lake Hartwell Saturday afternoon near R.C. Edwards School Road in Central, South Carolina.

According to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a 911 call around 2:25 p.m. reporting the discovery. Responding deputies and rescue teams confirmed that the remains belonged to an adult male. The Pickens County Coroner’s Office also responded and is leading the identification process.

The location where the body was found is close to the Clemson Experimental Forest — the same area where multiple search efforts were launched earlier this month for Swapnil Srivastava, who was reported missing from his Central apartment on December 6, 2025. Srivastava’s last known location was along R.C. Edwards School Road, near a trailhead in the forest, authorities said.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office are working to positively identify the body. Officials emphasized that no formal identification has yet been made. Once confirmed, additional information will be released by the Coroner’s Office.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have not released any cause of death or indication of foul play. Updates are expected as forensic results become available.
