Phoenix, Ariz. – Thunderstorms could spark across metro Phoenix Thursday night into Friday morning, creating slick roads and brief downpours before calmer, sunnier weather returns for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, storm chances increase to 50% Thursday night, with the strongest activity expected after midnight. Rainfall will remain light for most, though isolated pockets of heavier showers and thunder could hit neighborhoods from Glendale to Chandler.

Drivers heading out early Friday should watch for wet pavement on major routes including I-10 and Loop 202, especially during the morning commute. Winds may shift to the northwest at 5 to 10 mph as storms push through.

By Friday afternoon, skies are expected to clear with highs near 98 degrees, climbing back above 100 by Saturday and Sunday. The weekend will feature mostly sunny conditions, giving residents a break from the unsettled weather.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and limit late-night travel Thursday in case of lightning or reduced visibility. NWS forecasters note another round of isolated storms may return by Sunday night, but the main threat subsides after Friday morning.
