Phoenix, Arizona – A dangerous stretch of extreme heat will grip much of south-central Arizona through Tuesday, with Phoenix and surrounding cities facing highs up to 115°F and overnight lows that won’t dip below 90°F in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect from Sunday, June 29 through Tuesday, July 1. Cities including Glendale, Mesa, Chandler, and Buckeye are under alert, with the hottest conditions expected Monday. Maricopa County is offering free rides to cooling centers daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. via Arizona 211.
Residents are urged to stay indoors between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., drink water frequently, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. Air conditioning is highly recommended—fans alone may not be sufficient. Pets, elderly residents, and outdoor workers face the highest risk of heat-related illness.
The heat precedes a monsoonal shift midweek, bringing slight storm chances to the Phoenix area starting Wednesday. Higher elevations could see gusty winds and scattered thunderstorms as moisture builds from Mexico.
Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday night, with more advisories possible as the monsoon pattern develops.
