Phoenix, Ariz. – Roads across metro Phoenix could see flooding by late morning Friday as thunderstorms bring heavy rainfall into the evening hours. Low-water crossings and flood-prone areas may quickly become hazardous as runoff builds.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a Flood Watch remains in effect for much of Maricopa and Pinal counties from 8 a.m. through Friday night. Forecasters warn that scattered storms could produce 1 to 2 inches of rain, with localized totals exceeding that.
The threat stretches from Buckeye and Avondale across central Phoenix into Scottsdale, Mesa, and Queen Creek. Northern areas including Cave Creek, New River, and Deer Valley are also under the watch. In Pinal and Gila counties, communities such as Apache Junction, Fountain Hills, Superior, Globe, and San Carlos may also face rapid flooding.
Drivers are urged to avoid low-water crossings, particularly along the Salt and Gila River basins, where flash flooding could rise quickly. Emergency officials recommend staying off flooded roads and keeping mobile devices charged in case power or service is disrupted.
The Flood Watch is set to expire late Friday night, but additional advisories could be issued if storms linger.
