PHOENIX, Ariz. – Phoenix is entering another stretch of dangerous summer heat, with temperatures climbing above 110°F by midweek and little overnight relief. The National Weather Service warns the hottest period arrives Wednesday through Friday, with daytime highs between 110°F and 112°F.

According to the agency, Sunday will already bring highs near 104°F, rising to 106°F Monday and 108°F Tuesday. By Wednesday, the city is expected to top out near 110°F, with even hotter readings possible in the western Valley. Winds remain light, providing no break from the heat.

The Arizona Department of Health Services advises residents to avoid strenuous activity in the afternoon, check on vulnerable neighbors, and stay hydrated. Cooling centers across Maricopa County are extending hours as power demand is expected to spike midweek.

Drivers should also prepare for road surface damage from prolonged heat. ADOT cautions that asphalt softening can cause lane closures, particularly on I-10 and Loop 202. Pets and children should never be left in vehicles, as interior temperatures soar past 130°F within minutes.

Excessive heat warnings may be issued as early as Tuesday, with risks lasting through the end of the week.
