PHOENIX, Ariz. – A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms lingers over Phoenix overnight Friday, but the bigger story will be another stretch of dangerous triple-digit heat returning this weekend. Lows will only dip into the low 80s before temperatures climb to 103 by Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, storm chances remain near 20% through early Saturday, mainly in eastern Maricopa County. By Sunday, skies clear and highs hold steady around 103 before ramping up to 106 Monday and 107 Tuesday. Winds will be generally light, but any storm outflows could create sudden gusts.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is urging drivers to stay alert for slick roads if storms develop overnight, especially along I-10 between Tempe and downtown Phoenix. Afternoon heat could also stress vehicles and increase the risk of heat-related breakdowns.

Outdoor workers and residents are advised to limit activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors as the heat intensifies. Cooling centers across the Valley remain open daily.

Excessive heat will likely peak midweek, with highs near 110 Wednesday before storm chances return late week.
