Phoenix, Ariz. – Residents across much of central and western Arizona, as well as portions of southeastern California, remain under an Extreme Heat Warning through 8 p.m. Tuesday, with daytime highs pushing between 108°F and 116°F. The most intense heat will hit Parker Valley, Yuma, and the Imperial Valley, where readings may top 116°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, the heat risk is considered “major,” meaning heat-related illness can set in quickly without proper precautions. Maricopa County residents — including those in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Chandler, and Glendale — should limit outdoor activity to early morning or evening and take advantage of cooling centers by calling 2-1-1 for locations.

Travelers and outdoor workers are advised to drink water frequently, wear light clothing, and rest in shade or air-conditioned areas. OSHA recommends frequent breaks in cooler environments to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke, which requires immediate medical attention.

Public cooling shelters are open in affected counties, with additional hydration stations operating in Phoenix and Yuma. Officials warn the heat wave may ease slightly after Tuesday, but more advisories could follow later this week.
