Phoenix, Ariz. – A more active monsoon pattern is returning to Arizona this week, bringing daily thunderstorm chances to the high terrain around Phoenix and spreading across the lower deserts into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, storm chances of 20 to 50 percent will develop in the mountains north and east of the Valley beginning today, with lower desert regions, including south-central Arizona, seeing slight storm potential mid- to late week. By Friday, thunderstorms are expected to expand west into southwestern Arizona and into southeastern California as moisture deepens.
Forecasters warn storms may bring gusty winds, localized heavy rain, and blowing dust, leading to difficult driving conditions on Interstates 10 and 17. Flash flooding in washes and low-lying areas remains a concern, especially during evening commutes when storms are most active.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, secure outdoor items, and prepare for sudden visibility drops in dust-prone corridors. Storm activity is expected to continue into early next week as the monsoon flow strengthens.
