Phoenix, Arizona – Drivers across the Valley could encounter sudden drops in visibility before sunset Monday as virga showers sweep across the region, creating brief streaks of rain that evaporate before reaching the ground.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a weak disturbance moving through Arizona is triggering light, scattered showers and isolated storms across higher terrain, with virga likely developing over south-central deserts through the afternoon and early evening. Measurable rainfall in lower elevations remains below a 5% probability.

Cloud cover will thicken across Maricopa and Pinal counties, with areas along Interstate 10, Loop 202, and State Route 51 most likely to see reduced visibility from falling precipitation that does not reach the surface. Cities including Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, and Casa Grande may also experience brief gusty winds as these showers pass overhead.

Northern and eastern Arizona, including areas near Flagstaff and the Mogollon Rim, could see more consistent light rain, though impacts remain minimal. No widespread flooding or severe storms are expected.

Residents should remain alert for sudden visibility changes during the evening commute and avoid distractions while driving. Conditions will improve after sunset as clouds begin to clear.

More updates may follow if storm coverage increases later Monday.
