Phoenix, Ariz. – Isolated showers with a few lightning strikes are moving through the Phoenix metro Friday morning, creating the potential for slick roads and slower traffic during the commute. While most neighborhoods may see little to no rainfall, sudden downpours are possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, showers are expected to be brief but could affect travel during peak hours. Commuters are advised to allow extra time on the roads and reduce speed if encountering rain or wet pavement. Lightning has also been reported with these cells, posing additional hazards for outdoor workers and early travelers.

Radar early Friday showed scattered showers stretching from Wickenburg east toward New River, with isolated cells drifting through the Valley. Any rainfall amounts will be light overall, but short-lived heavier bursts may reduce visibility on freeways, especially along I-17 north of Phoenix.

Forecasters warn that storm activity will increase again by this evening across south-central Arizona. Residents should be prepared for another round of showers and possible thunderstorms after sunset.

More weather alerts may be issued later today as conditions evolve. For now, drivers are urged to use caution and monitor updates from the National Weather Service.
