Phoenix, Arizona — Breezy conditions are expected to continue across parts of Arizona and the Lower Colorado River Valley through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a lingering weather system responsible for gusty winds Thursday will remain in place through Friday and Saturday. The system may allow periods of breezy conditions across southwest Arizona, southeast California, and areas along the Lower Colorado River Valley.
Wind gusts could increase during the daytime hours Friday and Saturday, particularly during the afternoon when mixing in the atmosphere strengthens surface winds.
Travelers along major roadways such as Interstate 10 between eastern Riverside County and La Paz County may encounter gusty crosswinds capable of making driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles like trucks, trailers, and recreational vehicles.
Meteorologists say localized blowing dust or sand may also develop in parts of southeast California during stronger wind periods, which could briefly reduce visibility near desert highways.
Drivers traveling across desert corridors including Interstate 10 and nearby regional highways are encouraged to use caution, keep both hands on the steering wheel, and remain alert for sudden wind gusts when passing open desert areas.
In addition to travel impacts, residents may notice loose outdoor items being moved by gusty winds. Officials recommend securing lightweight outdoor objects such as patio furniture, trash bins, and temporary structures before winds increase.
While the breezy conditions are not expected to reach severe levels, the persistent winds could still create travel challenges for commuters and long-distance drivers using desert highways through the region.
The breezy pattern may gradually ease later in the weekend as the weather system shifts away from the Southwest.
