PHOENIX, Ariz. – A Flood Watch is in effect for much of south-central Arizona through Saturday as tropical moisture surges into the state, bringing the potential for heavy rain and localized flooding across the Valley and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Friday afternoon and continue through Saturday evening. Rainfall totals may reach 1 to 1.5 inches, with isolated higher amounts possible in flood-prone areas.

The Flood Watch includes Phoenix, Glendale, Scottsdale, Mesa, Buckeye, Avondale, Apache Junction, and Gold Canyon, extending east through Pinal County. Low-lying areas, washes, and dry creek beds may flood rapidly, especially where heavier storms linger.

Drivers are urged to avoid crossing flooded roads and monitor updates from local emergency officials. Creek and stream levels could rise quickly, creating dangerous travel conditions Friday night into Saturday morning.

Forecasters warn that additional advisories or warnings may be issued if storms intensify or training rainfall occurs over the same areas. The Flood Watch remains active through early Saturday night.
