PHOENIX, Ariz. – Dangerous triple-digit heat will grip the Phoenix metro through Wednesday evening, with temperatures expected to reach 112°F at the peak of the day. The National Weather Service has an Extreme Heat Warning in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday for the Valley and surrounding suburbs, urging residents to limit outdoor activity and stay hydrated.

According to the National Weather Service Phoenix office, afternoon highs will range from 108°F to 112°F across the Northwest Valley, East Valley, and central city neighborhoods. Heat illness can set in quickly, especially for those without air conditioning or shade. Cooling centers are available throughout Maricopa County—call 2-1-1 for locations and transportation options.

Outdoor workers and anyone spending time outside should take frequent breaks in shaded areas, wear light clothing, and drink plenty of water. Health officials warn that symptoms of heat exhaustion include heavy sweating, dizziness, and nausea; left untreated, these can progress to heat stroke, a life-threatening emergency requiring 911 assistance.

The heat is expected to ease slightly after Wednesday, with a chance of thunderstorms late in the week. Until then, residents are urged to check on vulnerable neighbors and pets, and avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours.
