Phoenix, AZ – Another round of showers and thunderstorms is moving across South-Central Arizona this afternoon, bringing an elevated flash flood threat due to already saturated soils, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

Forecasters say isolated to scattered storms will continue through the afternoon and early evening hours Monday, with rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches possible — and locally higher amounts within heavier downpours.

Because the region has already received significant rainfall in recent days, it won’t take much additional precipitation to trigger flash flooding in low-lying areas, washes, and normally dry streams.

The highest risk is expected during the late afternoon to early evening, especially across Phoenix, Casa Grande, Prescott, and Tucson regions. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roadways.

“Turn around, don’t drown,” officials warned, emphasizing that even a small amount of water can sweep vehicles away.

Residents are advised to monitor NWS Phoenix updates and local alerts throughout the day, especially in areas prone to flooding.
