Phoenix, Arizona – Drivers across the Phoenix metro area should prepare for potential flooding Thursday as a slow-moving storm system brings excessive rainfall and runoff to much of south-central Arizona.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a Flood Watch remains in effect from Thursday afternoon through Thursday evening, covering key areas such as Central Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, Glendale, Buckeye, and Apache Junction. The alert also spans into Gila Bend, Globe, Cave Creek, and the Sonoran Desert National Monument, with risk peaking late Thursday.

Communities along creeks and washes — especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas — are at highest risk. Excessive runoff could flood rivers, small streams, and urban roadways, with low-water crossings expected to become dangerous or impassable. Travel may be significantly impacted during afternoon and evening hours.

Residents in areas like Fountain Hills, San Carlos, and Tonopah Desert should monitor local alerts and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency officials advise keeping devices charged, avoiding flood-prone roads, and staying indoors during peak rainfall.

More updates are expected if rainfall intensifies. The Flood Watch remains in effect until 12:00 a.m. MST Friday, and additional warnings could be issued.
