Phoenix, AZ – Authorities say a high-speed chase near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport ended in a fiery crash early Sunday morning after a vehicle fled Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies during a DUI enforcement stop.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on November 2, 2025, when deputies attempted to stop a vehicle as part of a holiday weekend DUI operation. The driver allegedly sped off, reaching speeds of more than 120 miles per hour through the airport area in an attempt to evade law enforcement.

Deputies say they terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns in the congested area. Moments later, the fleeing vehicle lost control at speeds exceeding 90 MPH, collided with barriers, and caught fire.

MCSO reported that Deputy Cosme remained at the scene despite the driver fleeing on foot, rescuing a trapped passenger from the burning vehicle. Responding units later apprehended the other occupants. Charges against the driver are pending toxicology results, according to officials.

The sheriff’s office released bodycam footage showing the pursuit and crash. A longer version of the video is available on the agency’s YouTube page.
