Phoenix, AZ – Triple-digit heat is intensifying across the Valley today, with temperatures nearing 100°F by early afternoon and climbing even higher through Thursday, creating early-season health risks for millions.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, highs will reach 101°F to 102°F between Wednesday and Friday, with up to an 80% chance of Phoenix Sky Harbor hitting 100°F or higher by Friday afternoon. This places temperatures 15 to 25 degrees above normal, with multiple daily records at risk across Maricopa County.
Communities including Mesa, Chandler, and Glendale will see similar extremes, while Yuma, El Centro, and Blythe are also expected to reach 100°F to 102°F during peak heating hours. Prolonged exposure during the 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. window increases the risk of heat exhaustion, especially for those without adequate cooling.
Road surfaces along Interstate 10, Loop 101, and Loop 202 will heat rapidly, and vehicle-related heat hazards may increase during afternoon travel. Energy demand is also expected to spike as air conditioning use surges.
Slight relief arrives this weekend, with highs dipping into the mid-90s by Sunday, though conditions remain above seasonal norms. Residents should limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and monitor for additional advisories as the heat wave continues through Saturday.
