Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Thunderstorms could soak the Philadelphia region starting Friday afternoon, just as the weekend travel rush ramps up across southeastern Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely after 1 p.m. Friday, with downpours and lightning possible through the evening. Rainfall could exceed a quarter inch in spots, especially during isolated thunderstorms. Winds may gust as high as 15 mph, with cloudy skies holding daytime highs near 75°F.
Motorists should expect reduced visibility and slick pavement along I-95, I-76, and Roosevelt Boulevard by mid-afternoon. SEPTA riders may also experience delays. If possible, avoid travel during peak storm hours and secure outdoor items ahead of any heavy wind bursts.
Friday night will stay unsettled, with showers and storms lingering into the early morning hours of Saturday. Lows will hover near 68°F as the weather begins to transition.
Saturday sees a rebound in heat with a high near 86°F and a 50% chance of scattered storms. More sunshine returns Sunday, but the chance of afternoon thunderstorms sticks around, especially between 2–8 p.m.
Expect classic summer heat next week. Monday and Tuesday both push back toward 90°F with daily chances of storms — Tuesday’s being the most widespread.
