Philadelphia, PA – A powerful Arctic air mass plunged temperatures to record lows across the Mid-Atlantic on Thursday morning, bringing bitter cold to much of the region. Airports from Philadelphia to Atlantic City experienced their coldest temperatures in years.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, Philadelphia International Airport recorded a low of 8°F, the coldest temperature since December 2022. Atlantic City International Airport reached 6°F, while Millville Municipal Airport saw temperatures drop to 0°F — both experiencing their coldest morning since January 2018.

Further south, Wilmington Airport in Delaware recorded a low of 4°F, tying its coldest temperature since January 2018. Georgetown’s Delaware Coastal Airport also hit 6°F. Mount Holly itself dipped to 1°F, marking its coldest morning since February 2015.

The cold weather was compounded by clear skies and light winds overnight, allowing for rapid cooling, particularly northwest of I-95. Forecasters warn that similar conditions could persist into the weekend.

Residents are advised to bundle up and limit outdoor exposure during peak cold hours. Those traveling should prepare for potential delays due to frozen equipment at airports.
