Philadelphia, PA – Early risers across the region will feel a sharp chill by daybreak Friday, with temperatures dipping into the mid-30s before a rapid warm-up brings springlike conditions by the afternoon.
Temperatures will bottom out between 34°F and 38°F in many inland areas before sunrise, cold enough for patchy frost in sheltered suburbs and rural communities. Locations north and west of Philadelphia, including Allentown and Reading, have the highest chance of seeing frost develop on exposed surfaces before 7 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, high pressure will keep conditions dry and calm through the end of the work week. Skies will clear overnight, allowing temperatures to fall quickly, but sunshine returns Friday and helps drive highs into the upper 60s and low 70s across much of eastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey, and Delaware.
Philadelphia is expected to climb to around 70°F by mid-afternoon, while areas like Trenton, Wilmington, and Dover also push into the upper 60s. Coastal communities such as Atlantic City and Cape May will stay slightly cooler, with highs in the mid to upper 50s due to onshore flow.
The quick shift from chilly morning to mild afternoon could catch some off guard. Residents heading out early should dress in layers, especially in colder inland areas where frost may briefly impact sensitive plants.
A weak cold front is expected to pass through Friday night, but no significant impacts are anticipated. Dry weather holds into the weekend, with additional updates possible if temperatures trend colder overnight.
