Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – A break in the heat offers some welcome relief across southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and northern Delaware today, with sunny skies and highs in the low to mid-80s. But this reprieve will be short-lived, as an Extreme Heat Watch is already in effect for early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, Friday’s seasonable weather coincides with the start of astronomical summer. Temperatures will remain in the 80s with noticeably lower humidity. Trenton is expected to reach 86°F, with Philadelphia, Wilmington, and much of South Jersey hovering around 85°F. Conditions will begin to warm this weekend, with a slight chance of thunderstorms developing along and north of I-78 on Saturday afternoon.

Residents should prepare now for dangerously hot conditions starting Monday. Heat index values over 100°F are likely from Monday through midweek across northern Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania, and portions of central and southern New Jersey. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors during periods of extreme heat.

Today’s cooler stretch will be the last for a while. Expect updated alerts and advisories over the weekend as forecasters monitor the incoming heat dome.
