PHILADELPHIA – Heavy rain is soaking much of eastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey Sunday, keeping roads slick and outdoor plans on hold. Some towns, including Toms River and Trenton, are seeing rain probabilities above 85%, with showers tapering off later tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, skies will clear by Monday with dry air taking over through midweek. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 40s in the Lehigh Valley and Pocono Mountains, making for the chilliest stretch of the season so far. Philadelphia and Wilmington will hold closer to the mid-50s overnight, but still several degrees below normal for early September.
Daytime highs will stay pleasant, mostly in the mid to upper 70s. Wednesday will be the coolest afternoon thanks to cloud cover and scattered showers along the coast, while Thursday stands out as the warmest day of the week, with highs reaching near 82°F in Reading and Trenton.
Forecasters caution that prolonged onshore winds late Monday could trigger minor coastal flooding by Wednesday in spots like Atlantic City and Cape May. Residents in flood-prone areas should monitor updates and be prepared for possible advisories.
Dry, mild weather returns Thursday night into the weekend. More advisories are possible as new systems develop.
