Philadelphia, PA – Temperatures across the Philadelphia metro surged into the upper 90s Saturday, prompting a heat advisory that remains in effect until 8 p.m. tonight for much of southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, heat index values could climb as high as 99 degrees in affected counties, including Philadelphia, Delaware, and Montgomery in Pennsylvania; Mercer, Camden, and Gloucester in New Jersey; and New Castle in Delaware. The intense heat and humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable populations and those working outdoors.

Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, remain indoors with air conditioning if possible, and check on elderly neighbors. Outdoor workers should take frequent breaks in shaded areas, and anyone showing signs of heat stroke should seek medical attention immediately.

Major urban centers such as Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Trenton are particularly vulnerable due to the urban heat island effect. Local cooling centers are open throughout the region for those in need of relief.

The heat advisory expires at 8 p.m., but forecasters warn similar conditions may return early next week.
