Philadelphia, PA – Sweltering heat could push the heat index close to 100 degrees across the Philadelphia metro area by early Monday afternoon, prompting a Heat Advisory for millions through 8 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, dangerously hot and humid conditions are expected from noon to 8 p.m., with heat index values peaking around 99 degrees. The advisory affects New Castle County in Delaware, Mercer, Camden, Gloucester, and Burlington Counties in New Jersey, and much of southeastern Pennsylvania including Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery, and Bucks Counties.
Cities such as Cherry Hill, Wilmington, Trenton, and Norristown may experience heat stress conditions that pose serious health risks, especially for the elderly, young children, and those without adequate cooling. Cooling centers are open across Philadelphia, while agencies urge residents to limit outdoor activity, drink water frequently, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
SEPTA and other transit services may experience minor delays due to heat-related slowdowns. Trash pickup in some cities may also shift to early-morning hours to protect workers.
Monday’s heat is part of a broader pattern affecting the mid-Atlantic. While no Excessive Heat Warning is in place, NWS says additional advisories may follow if conditions worsen.
