Philadelphia, PA – A winter weather system arriving Tuesday could bring accumulating snow to parts of eastern Pennsylvania, mainly northwest of the I-95 corridor, while Philadelphia and surrounding southeastern areas are more likely to see cold rain and slushy conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the probability of seeing one inch or more of snow jumps to 65% in areas like Reading and Harrisburg, while Philadelphia holds at just 20%. Snow may briefly mix near the I-95 corridor at the onset, but the dominant precipitation type is expected to be rain for much of southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and coastal areas.
Roadways like I-78, the PA Turnpike, and Route 422 could face slick travel during the morning commute Tuesday, particularly in higher-elevation suburbs and rural communities. Residents in Lancaster, Allentown, and western suburbs should prepare for possible snow-covered roads, while those in Wilmington, Vineland, and Cherry Hill are more likely to deal with wet pavement and reduced visibility.
With the forecast still a few days out, forecasters caution that minor shifts in the storm track could change precipitation types and snowfall zones. Updates are expected through the weekend as confidence increases.
