Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Drivers have hours, not days, before blizzard conditions make I-95 and I-76 nearly impassable as up to 30 inches of snow piles into southeastern Pennsylvania through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect for Philadelphia and surrounding counties through Monday, with snowfall rates exceeding 2 inches per hour overnight Sunday and wind gusts topping 40 mph. Officials warn visibility could drop below a quarter mile, creating whiteout conditions along major corridors including I-95, I-76, I-676, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Statewide, the storm is hammering eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, with widespread totals of 18 to 24 inches and localized amounts reaching 30 inches near the New Jersey coast. PennDOT crews are pre-treating highways, but plows may be pulled from roads if conditions become too dangerous.

In Philadelphia, heavy snow will intensify before midnight Sunday and continue through the Monday morning commute. SEPTA riders should prepare for delays or service suspensions. Roosevelt Boulevard, Broad Street, and Kelly Drive are likely to see significant snow cover, while untreated secondary roads could become blocked.

Air travel at Philadelphia International Airport faces potential cancellations as winds and heavy snowfall reduce runway visibility. Power outages are also possible as strong winds weigh down tree limbs and power lines.

Residents should avoid non-essential travel, charge devices, and check on elderly neighbors. If travel is unavoidable, keep an emergency kit in your vehicle.

The heaviest snow and strongest winds are expected to taper late Monday, but hazardous travel may persist into Monday night as crews work to clear major routes. Additional advisories could be issued as conditions evolve.
