Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — Cold and blustery conditions will continue across the Philadelphia area through Friday as strong winds follow a departing cold front.

According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, temperatures today will remain in the low to mid-30s, before dropping into the 20s tonight. While skies turn dry after the front exits this morning, wind will be the primary impact.

Forecasters expect sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph across much of the region. The strongest gusts are expected near the coast and at higher elevations, but Philadelphia will still see frequent gusts capable of making conditions feel significantly colder.

By tonight, wind chill values are forecast to fall into the single digits across the metro area. In colder surrounding regions, including the southern Poconos, wind chills could dip below zero.

These conditions increase the risk of cold stress for anyone outdoors for extended periods. Even brief exposure may feel uncomfortable, especially after sunset when temperatures drop quickly.

Residents are advised to dress in layers, secure loose outdoor items, and use caution if driving high-profile vehicles during peak wind gusts. While no precipitation is expected, wind-driven cold alone may impact outdoor plans and early-morning travel.

This update is especially relevant for evening commuters, outdoor workers, students, and early-morning travelers, as the coldest wind chills will occur overnight into Friday morning.
