Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Wet pavement is spreading north toward the I-95 corridor, with rain reaching Center City by 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday and creating slick travel for the afternoon commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, low pressure sliding south of the region will bring the greatest precipitation chances to southern New Jersey and Delaware, where rain probabilities climb as high as 75 to 85 percent through late afternoon. Communities along I-295 and the Atlantic City Expressway will see steadier rainfall, with ponding possible in poor drainage areas.

Across the immediate Philadelphia metro, temperatures will top out near 42 to 43 degrees. That keeps most precipitation as plain rain along I-95 and I-76. Farther north toward Allentown and the Lehigh Valley near I-78, slightly cooler air could allow a brief mix of rain and wet snow during the midday hours. Surface temperatures hovering in the mid-30s should limit accumulation, but heavier bursts may briefly reduce visibility.

Drivers should allow extra stopping distance on bridges and ramps, especially during steadier showers south of the city. Winds remain light and variable, reducing the risk of tree damage or power outages.

Rain tapers from west to east later this evening, with improving conditions overnight. Motorists are encouraged to monitor updates through the late afternoon in case precipitation expands farther north or lingers into the evening commute.
