Philadelphia, Pa. – Drivers north of I-95 have a narrow window to prepare before up to 2 inches of snow begins falling between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday, creating slick stretches along the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-476 before the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, light snow will mainly impact areas north of I-195 and the PA Turnpike, with totals ranging from 1 to 2 inches and a 20% chance that isolated spots exceed 2 inches. Precipitation is expected to overspread the region between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, then taper off between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. Monday.

Communities such as Allentown, Reading and Morristown sit in the zone most likely to see accumulating snow, especially along I-78, I-476 and US-202. Farther south toward Center City Philadelphia, a rain and snow mix is expected, limiting totals to less than 1 inch. Roads could turn slushy late Sunday night as temperatures hover near freezing.

South Jersey, including Cherry Hill and Atlantic City, along with much of Delmarva, is expected to remain mostly rain, reducing the risk of icy travel on the Atlantic City Expressway and Garden State Parkway.

Motorists traveling north of the city should slow down, allow extra braking distance and check PennDOT and NJDOT updates before heading out early Monday. Conditions improve shortly after sunrise Monday, but isolated slick spots could linger on untreated bridges and overpasses.
