Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Light snow is expected to move into Philadelphia late tonight, with the most impactful winter weather occurring overnight through Tuesday morning across the region.
According to the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, Philadelphia has about a 55% chance of at least 0.1 inch of snow, with snow totals generally under 1 inch within the city. Snow is expected to begin after midnight and taper off by early Tuesday afternoon.
Areas north of Interstate 78, including the Poconos, far northwest New Jersey, and portions of the Lehigh Valley, will see greater impacts. Those locations have an 80–100% chance of measurable snow, with 1 to 3 inches common and isolated totals near 4 inches possible along and north of I-80.
There is also a 10–40% chance of at least 0.01 inch of ice north of Philadelphia, where snow may briefly change to freezing rain Tuesday morning, leading to slick roads and a light glaze on untreated surfaces.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday for Carbon and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania and Sussex County, New Jersey.
For Philadelphia commuters, the most affected period will be the Tuesday morning commute, when light snow and slushy conditions may slow travel, especially on bridges and untreated roads.
