Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — A rapidly changing weather pattern will impact the Philadelphia region Monday, beginning with dense fog this morning and followed by strong west to northwest winds gusting up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey.
Forecasters say areas north and west of Philadelphia are experiencing dense fog with visibilities reduced to one-quarter mile or less early Monday. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra travel time. The fog is expected to improve later this morning as a cold front moves through the region.
Behind the front, winds will strengthen quickly. A Wind Advisory is in effect across much of eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and northern Delaware, with sustained winds increasing to 20–30 mph and gusts reaching 40 to 50 mph. The strongest winds are expected this afternoon and evening and may continue into Tuesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service warns that strong gusts could lead to downed tree limbs, isolated power outages, and difficult travel, especially for high-profile vehicles on bridges and open roadways. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items such as holiday decorations, trash bins, and patio furniture.
Along the coast, a Gale Warning remains in effect for the Atlantic waters, where winds and seas will be hazardous to marine traffic. Mariners are urged to remain in port and avoid unnecessary travel on the water until conditions improve.
Temperatures will turn sharply colder behind the front, reinforcing the gusty conditions through tonight. While skies are expected to clear, the combination of cold air and wind will make it feel significantly colder.
Officials encourage residents to continue monitoring forecasts and heed all advisories as the region transitions from foggy conditions to a high-wind event.
