Philadelphia, PA – Brutal heat and suffocating humidity will blanket the tri-state region Friday, with heat index values soaring as high as 106 degrees—prompting the National Weather Service to issue an Extreme Heat Warning from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the warning spans New Castle County in Delaware, most of Central and South Jersey, including Camden, Trenton, and Cherry Hill, and southeastern Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, Norristown, and Bucks County. The combination of high humidity and soaring temperatures will create dangerous conditions for outdoor activity.
Cities across the region will feel the brunt of the heat. In Philadelphia, the heat index could peak near 105 by mid-afternoon. Wilmington and New Brunswick may see similar sweltering conditions. Vulnerable populations—especially the elderly, young children, and outdoor workers—are at elevated risk of heat-related illness.
Residents are urged to stay indoors, use air conditioning, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors. Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
This warning follows several days of rising temperatures and marks the hottest day of July so far for much of the area. Cooling centers may open locally; residents should monitor municipal updates.
⚠️ Extreme heat is expected to ease by Saturday, but additional advisories are possible if the heat lingers into the weekend.
