WILMINGTON, Del. – A sharp overnight chill will bring the first widespread frost of the season across Delaware, South Jersey, southeast Pennsylvania, and parts of eastern Maryland early Friday morning. Temperatures are expected to drop into the low to mid-30s between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. EST, prompting the National Weather Service in Mount Holly to issue a Frost Advisory for the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory covers New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties in Delaware; Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, and Caroline counties in Maryland; Salem, Gloucester, Camden, Cumberland, Atlantic, and Cape May counties in New Jersey; and Delaware and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania. The coldest air will settle in rural and inland areas, where calm winds and clear skies will allow frost to form on exposed surfaces.

Sensitive plants and late-season crops could be damaged or killed if left unprotected. Residents are urged to cover outdoor vegetation, bring potted plants indoors, and disconnect outdoor hoses before temperatures fall. Drivers should expect patchy frost on windshields near sunrise, particularly on rural roadways such as U.S. 301, I-95, and Route 1.

Conditions will quickly improve after sunrise Friday as sunshine returns and temperatures rebound into the upper 40s and 50s. Warmer air is expected to return briefly this weekend before another cold push early next week.
