Mount Holly, N.J. – Coastal communities across New Jersey, Delaware, and southeastern Pennsylvania are bracing for rounds of tidal flooding and dangerous surf through Wednesday as persistent northeast winds continue to push water inland. Minor flooding is expected to peak during high tide cycles, raising concerns for low-lying neighborhoods and busy shore towns.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for areas including Atlantic City, Cape May, Long Branch, Wilmington, and Philadelphia along the tidal Delaware River. Water levels could briefly cover roadways near the shore and along the riverbanks, especially late Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Officials warn of a high risk of rip currents from Sandy Hook to Cape May, as well as Delaware beaches from Lewes to Bethany. Lifeguards are urging swimmers to stay out of the surf until conditions improve. Flood-prone areas such as Route 47 near Wildwood and roads along the Christina and Brandywine rivers may see closures.
Residents are advised to avoid driving through standing water, secure outdoor belongings, and remain cautious near tidal areas. Additional flooding may continue into Thursday if winds remain strong.
