Glasgow, MT – Strong winds are sweeping across eastern Montana today, prompting multiple weather alerts from the National Weather Service in Glasgow. Forecasters warn that west winds of 25 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, are expected throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service, a Red Flag Warning is in effect for Petroleum and Garfield counties—including the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge—from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this afternoon. The dry air, with relative humidity around 20%, could create dangerous fire conditions.

A High Wind Warning remains active for southwestern Phillips County until noon, with gusts possibly reaching 60 mph. Additionally, a Lake Wind Advisory will stay in place through midnight, with potential waves up to six feet on area lakes.

Drivers are urged to use caution, especially on north-south roads, as crosswinds could make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles. Residents are also asked to avoid any open burning during the Red Flag Warning period.

This system is expected to weaken late tonight, with calmer conditions returning by Monday morning.
