Springfield, IL – The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for central, east-central, and west-central Illinois, in effect from 9 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, December 7.
Forecasters expect a light mix of snow and freezing rain, producing 1 to 3 inches of snow north of the I-74 corridor, including Peoria, Bloomington, and Champaign, and a thin glaze of ice across much of central Illinois.
According to the Weather Service, slick and hazardous travel conditions are likely overnight, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads. Even minimal ice accumulation could lead to slippery surfaces on driveways, sidewalks, and parking lots.
Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use caution if traveling late Saturday night or early Sunday. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly by sunrise, improving road conditions by mid-morning.
