Peoria Shooting: 11-Year-Old Boy Hospitalized with Gunshot Wound

Peoria, IL – An 11-year-old boy was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the head following a shooting in Peoria on Sunday evening.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of E. Kansas at approximately 4:52 p.m. They found the young victim outside a residence with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The boy was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, Crime Scene Unit, and Patrol Unit responded to the scene and launched an investigation. During their inquiries, officers identified two males present at the time of the shooting: 26-year-old Micah D. Stitts and a 17-year-old juvenile who fled the scene. Stitts was taken into custody for questioning and subsequently arrested on an active warrant and charges of endangering the health and life of a child. A warrant has been issued for the juvenile suspect.
